The Joe Sonne Group Web Services recently gained a new client, 'The Babb Group'. They already had a mature online content management system (CMS) and sold their products and services using PayPal scripts. There are shortcomings doing e-commerce this way.

Shopify is intended to be a stand alone store and isn't designed to be embedded into an existing website like some other systems are. The Babb Group already had a mature and decently ranking website. They have extensive information and a very popular blog on the main site. You can do all these things on the Shopify site itself but there was no need to port everything over. It was just a matter of making menu and product links to store and from the store make it easy to get back to the website should the customer choose to do so. The transition to the store and back needs to make sense to the customer so setting the store up as a sub domain to the main website was the answer. Any product descriptions on the main site were changed to link directly to the Shopify store items. Once a customer enters the Shopify store it's likely they'll remain there until they are done all their purchases.
